advocating for individuality

Posted by hypnadot - 1 month ago

yo yo yo.

now i have been thinking about AI art for a while now. yeah, it sucks. big discovery. with how repetitively bland it is, i try to be as optimistic as i can be about this kinda thing since the paranoia i see is helping no one. in fact, it gets too much for actual artists that get accused of using AI generation. they'd wipe their whole existence off the internet which i don't gotta say how unfair that is. even if they got the timelapse strapped, damage has already been done as accusations spread like wildfire.

so regarding my optimism, here's the main positive. i'm really hoping that these slop factories persuade actual artists to deviate from whatever basic art style AI produces. i think now more than ever, individuality needs to be advocated more. this might sound like an attack directed towards ppl who draw similar to the pictures usually generated by AI but i'm not trying to stop ppl from making stuff like it and i wouldn't even if i could. but in my honest opinion, that generic realistically rendered anime style is so boring plus it's the most commonly generated look.

to the ppl who make similar art, first of all, glad you're still alive and didn't let the paranoia get to you. second of all, what i'm saying is just a look at the bigger picture in my eyes. i don't want any more artists to put effort in some realistically rendered stuff and some idiot calls it AI-assisted, putting a dent on their reputation. whether they know the difference or not or you have enough ppl defending you is unfortunately irrelevant with how trigger happy the internet is. if you don't care, that's cool. as i said, can't stop you. but as of now, the inevitable blending that kinda art may have with AI-generated images can't be unseen.

luckily there's more to art than what AI generates. my advice is to find some scenes/movements/studios that may interest you, past or present it don't matter, and do extensive research and studying on them. it doesn't even have to be another drawing or painting. anything and i mean ANYTHING, can inspire you. movies, shows, sculptures, music, the list goes on. but for an example, despite the AI clogging, anime is vast like every other medium and doesn't come in just one look so searching through there would definitely be a great start. grab everything you like from the research. don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and switch the rendering up. really experiment with different elements, brushes, textures and all that. see what sticks and what doesn't. believe me, the direction will become more clear with time.

this is at least how i got happier with my own work. maybe this'll help someone else. thanks for reading. <3

It's happening in music spaces as well, would hate to be an audio mod right now.
